Sketched Blooms | Twice the Hugs | MFT Color Challenge 64

I’m back participating in another challenge. I got some great inspiration from the My Favorite Things Color Challenge this time around. The colors are Lemon Chiffon, Blue Yonder, Gravel Grey and Black Licorice. I made a really sweet springy card that makes me feel good!

I’ve been playing a bit with water colors recently and when I saw these colors I thought of plaid. Haha. I don’t know why but it just popped into my head so I decided to try my hand at a watercolor plaid background using my¬† Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors on Canson XL paper. I really love soft cozy feel of this.

I used both the Sketched Booms and Sketched Blooms 2 stamp sets from MFT for my floral elements. I stamped the outlines in Versafine Onyx Black Ink and then the colored layers in SSS Blue Jay, SSS Cobblestone Dye ink and Warm Sunshine Crisp Dye ink from Altenew. These pretty much matched my watercolors perfectly.

Then I die cut a frame from SSS Smoke cardstock with the MFT Single Stitched Line Rounded Rectangle and adhered that to my plaid background. I die cut the MFT script Hugs sentiment from some Neenah Solar White 4 times and then blended some Blue Jay ink onto it. I usually have a tough time with my ink blending but this time it just worked. I think it was the combo of ink and cardstock, or maybe I’m just getting better. LOL.

I stacked up the Hugs die cuts for some dimension and placed that over the frame. I popped up some of my flower elements for a pretty layered look and embellished with some sequins. The yellow, blue and clear ones are from Lucy’s Little Things Twinkle Lights mix and the tiny clear flower shaped ones were a gift. I have to confess, it took me an obscene amount of time to place these sequins, I’m talking like 15 minutes or so. I kept moving them around thinking to myself, why in the world can’t I make up my mind??!! In the end I think I got them placed pretty well. I don’t know enough about the rules of aesthetics yet, so mostly I just move stuff around until it FEELS right to me. I need to buy a book take a class or something. Then maybe the process won’t be so laborious, time consuming and make me anxious. haha. .this is supposed to be fun people!
